Utah State track & field runner Clay Lambourne has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 25, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

Overall, it is the first time this season and in his career Lambourne has earned the accolade.

Lambourne, a senior from Riverton, Utah, placed first in the men’s 800 meters with a meet-record time of 1:48.74 at the Mountain West Indoor Championships last weekend for his fourth-consecutive 800m indoor title, which is a first in conference history. Lambourne also ran the third leg in Utah State’s distance medley relay team that took second with a school-record time of 9:34.61, which ranks as the second-fastest time in NCAA history, behind only the New Mexico team that placed first in the same meet. Overall, Lambourne helped Utah State to a third-place team finish with 116 points.

Utah State will wait on the results from other conference championships to see who will advance to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in College Station, Texas, starting on March 9.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week include:
MEN’S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard Koby McEwen (Toronto, Canada) led Utah State with 13 points and eight rebounds in its 75-65 Mountain West road loss at Air Force last weekend. McEwen also added a team-best four assists and one steal in 37 minutes of play.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard Eliza West (Mount Martha, Victoria, Australia) scored 14 points and tied her career-high with seven rebounds in Utah State’s 57-55 Mountain West home win against Air Force last weekend. West also added five assists and one steal in the win, while shooting 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the floor and 66.7 percent (2-of-3) from the free throw line.

GYMNASTICS – Freshman Autumn DeHarde (Sussex, Wis.) captured the floor crown for the second straight week with a career-high-tying 9.925 at the Elevate The Stage meet last weekend, which was held in Toledo, Ohio. The Aggies placed third in the quad meet with a season-high road score of 195.325, finishing behind the 196.575s turned in by both No. 6 Michigan and No. 10 Denver. DeHarde also tied for sixth on beam with a 9.825 and placed 18th on vault with a 9.675.

SOFTBALL – Freshman pitcher Delaney Hull (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led Utah State to a 4-1 record last weekend in a tournament hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, as the Aggies defeated Omaha (5-3) and swept the host-Islanders (8-5, 15-0 (5)), while splitting two games against Texas Southern (W 7-0, L 9-8). Highlighting Hull’s weekend was her performance against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the final game of the tournament as she threw the first Utah State no-hitter since at least 2002, while tying her career-high with five strikeouts. In the first game of the tournament against Omaha, she threw 6.1 innings, allowing six hits and three runs. In the win, she walked just one batter while striking out four. Hull also pitched a portion of an inning in relief in the loss to Texas Southern, allowing one hit and walking one batter. On the week, Hull posted a 2-0 record, pitching 11.1 innings. In all, she allowed seven hits and five runs, tallying nine strikeouts and two walks.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Junior Brenn Flint (Syracuse, Utah) set the school’s indoor shot put record for the fifth time this season with a throw of 16.70 meters (54-9.50) to win the event at the Mountain West Indoor Championships, held last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M., which was USU’s first-ever women’s MW shot put title. Overall, Flint helped the Aggies finished eighth as a team with 44.67 points.
