LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's track & field teams had 12 athletes receive all-Mountain West honors a total of 16 times after last weekend's MW Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Highlighting the group is junior Leaugen Fray, who won both the high jump (2.18m (7-1.75)) and the long jump (7.38m (24-2.50)) to earn all-conference honors in both events. He was joined by freshman Hunter Simonson, who also garnered an accolade in the high jump (2.12m (6-11.50))after his third-place finish.
Junior Brenn Flint set the school's indoor shot put record for the fifth time this season, as she won the event with a throw of 16.70m (54-9.50). She was joined in all-MW honors by sophomore Maia Garren, who placed third in the same event with a personal-best throw of 15.52m (50-11.00).
Senior Clay Lambourne earned two all-conference honors as he won the 800m race in a meet-record time of 1:48.74, as well as running a leg in USU's distance medley relay team that placed second with a school-record time of 9:34.61.
Lambourne was joined on the DMR and in the all-conference honors by fellow seniors Dillon Maggard, Brady Martin and Jordan Beutler. Maggard also received all-MW accolades by placing second in the 5,000m with a time of 14:47.69, while Beutler earned all-conference honors by placing third in the 800m with a time of 1:51.46.
Sophomore Brody Smith won the men's 3,000m race in 8:15.24 to round out the men's track honors.
In the field, junior Sam Nelson won USU's first men's pole vault title since 2005 by clearing a height of 5.15m (16-10.75) to garner all-MW accolades, while sophomore Kyle Brost placed third in the long jump with a mark of 14.85m (48-8.75) to earn USU's first all-MW selection in the men's triple jump since joining the league.
Senior David Hirschmann placed second in the men's shot put with a personal-best throw of 17.91m (58-9.25) to round out USU's all-conference selections.
Utah State will wait on the results from other conference championships to see who will advance to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in College Station, Texas, starting on March 9.
