Logan, Utah -

Junior Chari Hawkins will represent Utah State at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships, as the championships field was announced Monday evening by the NCAA Division I Men and Women's Track and Field Committee.

The championships will take place Friday and Saturday, Mar. 14-15, at the Albuquerque Convention Center, hosted by the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M.

"We're excited for Chari to qualify for nationals in the pentathlon," said Aggie veteran head coach Gregg Gensel. "We considered having her do both the pentathlon and the high jump but the schedule wasn't conducive to that. We feel like she has a chance to do really well in that. This is a facility that she's familiar with and she can obviously compete with the best in the nation. We're excited for the possibilities."

Hawkins qualified with a score of 4,173 points to win the pentathlon at the Mountain West Indoor Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. last weekend. The score broke her own school record set earlier this year and was the highest total ever recorded at the Mountain West Indoor Championships.

In last season's NCAA Outdoor Championships, Hawkins was named second-team All-American after placing 11th in the heptathlon. The junior also finished 21st in the high jump at the NCAA finals.

This is the first time the Aggies will be represented at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2011, when Sonia Grabowska competed in the pole vault and Clint Silcock qualified in the high jump. Silcock finished tied for 11th, while Grabowska failed to clear a height in the finals.

The championships will be streamed live on ESPN3 starting at 5:55 p.m. (MT) on March 14 and at 5:50 p.m. on March 15. A tape delay of the championships will be aired on ESPNU at 4:30 p.m. on March 22.
