LOGAN, Utah – Utah State cross country runner Dillon Maggard has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week, for the period ending Sunday, March 12, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the sixth time this year and seventh time in Maggard’s career that he has been named USU’s student-athlete of the week.
Maggard claimed the fourth All-American honor of his career and second indoor honor by placing 13th in the men’s mile, topping his own record with a time of 4:01.25. Maggard did not qualify for the finals, but secured second-team All-American accolades by finishing in the top-16 overall.
Maggard joins elite company, as he is now the fifth men's track & field athlete in school history to earn All-American honors four times.

MEN’S BASKETBALL – Senior wing Jalen Moore (North Logan, Utah) led Utah State in scoring and rebounding last week as Utah State advanced to the quarterfinals split of the Mountain West Championships with a 90-64 victory against San José State and an 83-69 loss to Nevada. Against the Spartans, Moore scored 19 points and added seven rebounds, four assist and one steal, shooting 50.0 percent (7-of-14) from the floor, 33.3 percent (1-of-3) from behind the 3-point line and 66.7 percent (4-of-6) at the free throw line. Against the Wolf Pack, Moore scored a career-high 27 points and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals, shooting 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from the floor, 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from behind the 3-point line and 83.3 percent (5-of-6) at the free throw line. For the week, Moore averaged 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game and shot 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the floor, 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from behind the 3-point line and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) at the free throw line.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard Rachel Brewster (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) led Utah State to a 1-1 record last week at the 2017 Mountain West Championships as the Aggies posted a 46-40 win against Air Force in the opening round, before losing to UNLV in the quarterfinals, 68-43. Brewster led the Aggies with 14 points against the Falcons, while adding three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal. Against UNLV, Brewster was again the team's leading scorer with 11 points to go along with six rebounds, one assist and one steal. On the week, Brewster averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game, while shooting 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from the field, 22.2 percent (2-of-9) from the 3-point line and 50.0 percent (1-of-2) from the free throw line.
MEN’S GOLF – Senior Tanner Jenson (Parker, Colo.) tied for eighth with an 8-under 208 (73-69-66) at the South Dakota State-hosted Jackrabbit Invitational, held last week in Las Vegas, Nev. After beginning the tournament with a 1-over 73, Jenson carded back-to-back rounds in the 60s, including a 3-under 69 during his second round on Friday and a season-best 6-under 66 during his final 18 holes on Saturday for his best 54-hole score of the season at 8-under 208. Utah State finished the 12-team tournament in seventh place with a 7-under 857 (293-276-288).
GYMNASTICS – Sophomore Madison Ward (Rexburg, Idaho) captured a pair of individual event titles as Utah State concluded the regular season last weekend with a 195.675-194.600 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference loss to No. 21 Southern Utah. Ward was one of a trio of Aggies to tie for first on bars with a personal-best score of 9.875, helping USU record a 49.275 on the event – the seventh-best score in school history. Two events later, Ward tied for first on floor with a 9.875. She also tied for eighth on vault with a 9.725.
SOFTBALL – Freshman outfielder Riley Plogger (Redlands, Calif.) led Utah State to a 4-1 record at the Southern Utah-hosted Beehive Classic last weekend as the Aggies defeated Southern Utah (12-1 (6)) and Wagner (13-4 (5) & 14-5) and split a pair of games with Bradley in a 7-5 win and a 4-0 loss. In the weekend-opener against SUU, Plogger hit .750 (3-of-4) with one double and one triple. She scored two runs on the day while tallying three RBIs. Against Wagner, Plogger went 2-for-3 (.667) at the plate, including her first-career home run. She scored twice against the Seahawks with four total RBIs, while adding one defensive putout. In the first meeting with Bradley, Plogger went 1-of-4 (.250) at the plate with three putouts. In the second game against Wagner, she batted .750 (3-of-4) with two doubles and a triple, scoring two runs and tallying three RBIs. She also added one putout. In the weekend finale against Bradley, Plogger was 0-for-3 at the plate, but had three defensive stops. On the weekend, Plogger batted .500 (9-of-18) with three doubles, two triples and a home run for a 1.056 slugging percentage. She scored six of the team's runs, while batting in 10. Defensively, she added eight putouts in left field.
MEN’S TENNIS – Junior Jaime Barajas (Woodland Hills, Calif.) posted a 3-0 record last week helping Utah State to a 2-1 road record with a 4-3 loss at No. 45 Cal Poly and a pair of 4-0 wins against Loyola Marymount and Georgetown. Against the Mustangs, Barajas won at No. 3 singles (7-5, 7-5) after leaving his doubles match unfinished. And against the Lions, Barajas won at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1) after pairing up with junior Andrew Nakajima for a 6-4 win at the third doubles position. Barajas did not compete against Georgetown.
WOMEN’S TENNIS – Freshman Hannah Jones (South Ogden, Utah) posted a perfect 2-0 mark in singles play last week as Utah State posted a 1-1 road record with a 5-2 win against Seton Hall and a 4-3 loss against Georgetown, with both matches being played in Los Angeles, Calif. Against the Pirates, Jones won at the No. 5 spot in three sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-1) to clinch the match. And against the Hoyas, Jones posted another three-set win at the No. 5 spot (2-6, 6-2, 6-1).
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD – Junior Dillon Maggard (Kirkland, Wash.) earned second-team All-American honors last weekend at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships held in College Station, Texas, as he broke his own school record by placing 13th with a time of 4:01.25 in the men's mile. Maggard is now a four-time All-American with two of those accolades earned during his indoor seasons.
