Utah State Track & Field's Rachel Orr Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

Utah State track & field athlete Rachel Orr has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Mar. 30 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the first time in her career that Orr has been named USU’s student-athlete of the week.
Orr, a native of Thatchr, Ariz., won the high jump at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational last weekend with a personal-best leap of 1.80m (5-10.75), which ranks second all-time in school history. In total, Utah State won seven event titles in Orem, Utah.
Utah State track & field continues the outdoor season Friday and Saturday, Apr. 4-5, at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.

SOFTBALL – Junior shortstop/catcher Jolene Koons (Chico, Calif.) hit .455 last week in four games as Utah State lost a neutral site game to Southern Utah (4-1) and dropped all three games in a Mountain West series at Fresno State by scores of 6-0, 8-0 (5) and 4-3. Against the Thunderbirds, Koons went 2-for-3 at the plate, followed by a 1-for-3 performance against the Bulldogs in game one. In the series finale against FS, Koons went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and one run batted in. For the week, Koons hit safely in three of USU’s four games and finished with a .455 hitting percentage (5-11) and a .636 slugging percentage.
MEN’S TENNIS – Freshman Dennis Baumgartner (Rheinfelden, Germany) helped Utah State to a 1-0 record last week with a 5-2 road win at Weber State. Against the Wildcats, Baumgartner posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-3) and teamed with junior Marcus Fritz for an 8-7 win at the first doubles position as USU claimed the doubles point.
WOMEN’S TENNIS – Junior McKenzie Davis (Salt Lake City, Utah) posted a combined 5-1 record last week as she helped Utah State to a 1-2 home mark with a 5-2 win against Montana State, followed by a 5-2 loss against Air Force and a 6-1 loss to New Mexico. Against the Bobcats, Davis posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-4) and teamed with sophomore Kallie Sperry for an 8-3 win at the first doubles position. Against the Falcons, Davis won in three sets at No. 1 singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-0) and posted an 8-5 doubles win with Sperry at the first position. And against the Lobos, Davis won in straight sets at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-4) and teamed with Sperry for an 8-5 loss at the first doubles position.
MEN’S TRACK – Sophomore Kevin Allen (Upton, Wyo.) won his second-straight discus title with a toss of 52.64m (172-08) last weekend at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational.
