AJ Boully Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior sprinter AJ Boully has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 2, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior sprinter AJ Boully has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 2, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

It is the third time this year and fourth time in Boully’s career that he has been named USU’s student-athlete of the week.

The native of Boise, Idaho, won both the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay titles with times of 49.58 and 3:06.72, respectively, last weekend at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Spectrum. In his 400m hurdles victory,  Boully edged out Texas hurdler and 2016 Olympian, Byron Robinson. His time in the 400m hurdles ranks third all-time in school history, first in the Mountain West and second in the nation this season. Boully's 4x400m relay time ranks first in the Mountain West and 18th in the nation this season.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:

GYMNASTICS – Sophomore Madison Ward (Rexburg, Idaho) recorded Utah State’s highest individual score at the NCAA Regional Championships last Saturday in Seattle, Wash., as she had a 9.825 on floor to tie for 15th. Ward also tied for 24th on vault with a 9.775 and tied for 26th on bars with a 9.750. Overall, Utah State finished sixth with a team score of 194.850.

SOFTBALL – Senior shortstop Sarina Jaramillo (West Covina, Calif.) helped Utah State to a 2-1 Mountain West record at Boise State last week (W 4-1, W 7-3, L 2-4). In the series opener, Jaramillo went 2-for-4 at the plate, while adding five defensive assists. In Saturday's win, she was 1-of-3 at the plate, drawing one walk and scoring one run. She also added one putout and four assists. In Sunday's finale, Jaramillo had two of the team's three hits, as she hit 2-for-3 with one triple and one home run. She also had one putout and three assists. On the week, Jaramillo batted .500 (5-of-10) with one triple and a home run, while being walking once. She scored two runs along with one RBI, while adding two putouts and 12 assists defensively.

MEN’S TENNIS – Sophomore Jonas Maier (Hamburg, Germany) posted a 2-0 record in singles and doubles to lead No. 40 Utah State to a 4-3 road win against UNLV. In doubles, Maier teamed with senior Jack Swindells for a 6-4 win at the second position. Then, in singles, with the match tied at 3-3, Maier fought off five match points in the second set to force a third set before defeating his opponent (4-6, 7-6 (9), 6-4) to clinch the road win for USU.

WOMEN’S TENNIS – Senior Nini Guensler (Tbilisi, Georgia) posted a 2-1 record last week in singles and doubles to guide Utah State to a 1-1 Mountain West home record with a 7-0 loss against Wyoming and a 7-0 win against Colorado State. Against the Cowgirls, Guensler’s doubles match was left unfinished and she lost her singles match at the No. 1 spot in straight sets (7-5, 6-3). Against the Rams, Guensler and junior Sabrina Demerath clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (2) win at the second position. Then, Guensler was the first off the court in singles with a straight sets win at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-3).

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD – Senior Mia Estes (Anaconda, Mont.) won the javelin title with a distance 46.67m (153-1.50) last weekend at the Utah Valley Collegiate Invitational. With the victory, Estes has won the javelin title for the second-straight week.
