Lindsey Spencer Named WAC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State track and field senior thrower Lindsey Spencer was named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, for the week of April 9-15, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
This is the second WAC Field Athlete of the Week honor for Spencer as she also won the award for the week of March 12-18.
Spencer was also named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 15. It is also the second time this season that she has won the award.
Spencer, a native of Ogden, Utah (Fremont HS/Weber State), extended her Utah State record in the discus with a WAC-leading toss of 54.48m (178-09), to win the event at Sacramento State's Mondo Mid-Major Challenge this past weekend. Spencer ranks 12th in the nation in the event. She also placed second in both the shot put and hammer throw with marks of 14.93m (48-11.75) and 57.63m (189-01), respectively.
This also marks the fifth time an Aggie has been named a WAC Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, as seniors Daniel Howell and Hunter Nelson were named the WAC Men's Track Athletes for the weeks of April 2-8 and March 12-18, respectively. Sophomore Kyle McKenna also earned the honor for the week of March 19-25. Additionally, three Aggies received the accolade during the 2012 indoor season including sophomores Chari Hawkins and Kylie Hirschi as well as senior Spela Hus.
Utah State track and field will host its lone home meet of the season, the Mark Faldmo Invitational, on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21 at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium. For more information on the 2012 Mark Faldmo Invitational, fans can visit the track and field page at www.utahstateaggies.com.
