April 19, 2012
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's men and women's track and field teams will host their lone home meet of the 2012 season, the Mark Faldmo Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 20-21 at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium in Logan, Utah.
Friday's action consists of the men and women's hammer throw that is set to start at 4 p.m. (MT). Saturday will kick off at 10 a.m. with the men and women's sections of the shot put, javelin and long jump events. The 2012 Mark Faldmo Invitational is scheduled to end with the men and women's 4x400m relays at approximately 4 p.m. All times subject to change.
In-state competitors will be in attendance with athletes representing BYU, Utah, Utah Valley, Weber State and Westminster. Other teams that will be competing against the Aggies include Great Falls and Idaho State, along with a club team and various athletes running unattached.
"The home meet is great for a couple of reasons. We can showcase our talents with our local fans, plus the newspaper reporters come to the meets and are able to write about us. That is an exciting thing for our athletes," said USU veteran head coach Gregg Gensel. "It is also good competition especially with in-state teams coming, there is kind of a rivalry and it gives our athletes some extra motivation to perform well."
Information for the 2012 Mark Faldmo Invitational is available on the track and field page on www.utahstateaggies.com. Results will also be posted at the end of each day, along with a release recapping the days events.
Utah State's outdoor track and field season will continue as they travel to Berkeley, Calif., for the Bruce Hamilton Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 27-28. The 2012 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships will be held at the Dan O'Brien Track & Field Complex in Moscow, Idaho on Tuesday through Friday, May 8-11.
