April 29, 2013
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's track and field sophomore sprinter Nic Bowens was tabbed the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 28, in an award voted on by a state-wide media panel.
This is the second career USU Student-Athlete of the Week honor for Bowens, as he also won the award during the indoor track and field season on Feb. 25.
Bowens, a native of Meridian, Idaho (Meridian HS), placed second in the 200m (21.61) and third in the 100m (10.62), while also being a member of the second-place 4x100m relay team (40.22) at the University of California hosted Brutus Hamilton Invitational this past weekend. Bowens joined freshmen Jacob Bautista Jr. and Cole Lambourne, along with senior Will Henry to run the second-fastest time for the 4x100m relay in school history, as the time also ranks second in the WAC this season.
This is the third-straight week that a member of the USU track and field team has won the award, while also being the fifth time this academic year that an Aggie track and field athlete has garnered the accolade.
USU track and field will take this week off from competition to prepare for the 2013 WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships that will be hosted by the University of Texas at Arlington at Maverick Stadium on Wednesday through Saturday, May 8-11.
