Utah State Track & Field's Nic Bowens Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

Utah State junior track & field athlete Nic Bowens has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, May 4 it was announced Monday, in an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the second time this year and fourth time in his career that Bowens has been named USU’s student-athlete of the week.
Bowens a native of Meridian, Idaho won the 200m at the Idaho-Utah Border Clash in Boise, Idaho last weekend with a school-record time of 20.77. He also took the title in the 100m after finishing in 10.27, good for the second fastest time in Utah State history. Additionally, the junior helped the 4x100m relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 40.32. Both of Bowens' times are the fastest in the Mountain West this season.
Utah State track & field will take a week off from competition before taking part in their first Mountain West Outdoor Championships, which will take place Wednesday through Saturday, May 14-17, in Laramie, Wyo.

SOFTBALL – Junior outfielder Hailey Froton (Temecula, Calif.) hit safely in both games she played in last weekend as Utah State was swept in a three-game Mountain West home series against Nevada by scores of 7-1, 5-3 and 3-0. In USU's game one loss, Froton provided the offense going 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a home run. In the series finale, she went 2-for-3 at the plate with two of USU's four hits in the game. For the week, Froton hit .571 (4-7) with three RBI, one run scored and one home run.
WOMEN’S TRACK – Senior Keeley Eldredge (Sandy, Utah) won the hammer throw with a toss of 56.26m (184-07) at the Idaho-Utah Border Clash in Boise, Idaho last weekend. Eldredge also placed ninth in the discus, recording a distance of 40.49m (132-10).
