Thrower Lindsey Spencer Named Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week For Fifth Time This Year

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State track and field thrower Lindsey Spencer has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, May 27, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel. It is the fifth time in her career that Spencer has received USU student-athlete of the week honors. Spencer, a senior from Ogden, Utah (Fremont HS/Weber State) ended her historic Utah State career after competing in two events at the first round of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Track & Field Stadium in Austin, Texas this past weekend. Spencer narrowly missed qualifying for the finals of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships after placing 13th in the hammer with a toss of 61.60m (202-01). With the finish, Spencer was the highest placer for the Utah State women. She also competed in the discus but fouled on all three attempts. During her senior season, Spencer set school records in the hammer (61.99m [203-04]) and discus (54.48m [178-09]), and won the WAC Outdoor title in the hammer helping Utah State sweep the 2012 WAC Track & Field Championships as they won their first WAC Indoor title in February and their first WAC Outdoor title on May 11. Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included: MEN'S TRACK - Senior Daniel Howell (Manti, Utah) ended his Utah State career competing in two events at the first round of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Track & Field Stadium in Austin, Texas this past weekend. Howell was the highest finisher for the USU men placing 21st in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:03.38) and 45th in the 5,000m (15:12.85). 2011-12 Utah State Athlete of the Week Winners
