Four Track Athletes Earn Academic All-District Honors

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State had four track and field student-athletes earn academic all-district honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as seniors Steve Strickland and Erin Stratton, junior Dwayne Hansen and sophomore Daniel Howell were all named to the District 8 team.
Stratton and Hansen both earned first-team honors, while Strickland and Howell received second-team accolades. In fact, it is the third year in a row that Strickland has garnered second-team academic all-district honors from CoSIDA.
Stratton, a senior from Aurora, Colo., (Smoky Hill HS) has a 3.98 grade-point average in exercise science. During her USU career, she was a five-time Western Athletic Conference Indoor Champion in the 1,500m (2008), mile (2009), 3,000m (2009) and distance medley (2009, 2010). In all, she earned first-team all-WAC honors a total of 10 times and academic all-WAC honors eight times during her USU career.
Hansen, a junior from Rexburg, Idaho (Madison HS) has a 3.92 GPA in biochemistry. He has earned all-WAC honors three times in the pole vault during his USU career, including first-team honors at the 2009 WAC Outdoor Championships. He also earned academic all-WAC honors during the 2009 outdoor season
Strickland, a senior from Orem, Utah (Mountain View HS) has a 3.47 GPA majoring in Spanish. During his USU career, he was a three-time WAC Outdoor Steeplechase Champion (2008, 2009, 2010) and won the 5,000m at both the indoor and outdoor WAC Championships in 2009, along with winning the 3,000m at the 2008 WAC Indoor Championships. He has earned academic all-WAC honors seven times overall.
Howell, a sophomore from Manti, Utah (Manti HS) is majoring in wildlife science and has a 3.93 GPA. At the 2010 WAC Outdoor Championships, he earned first-team all-WAC honors in both the 3,000m steeplechase and the 5,000m. He was also a two-time first-team all-WAC recipient at the 2010 WAC Indoor Championships in the 3,000m and 5,000m, and earned first-team all-WAC honors in cross country during the 2009 season. Overall, he has earned academic all-WAC honors three times during his USU career
District VIII is made up of schools from Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
