SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Utah State distance runner LeAnn Larkin capped off her freshman campaign by placing sixth in the finals of the 1,500-meter run at the USA Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Hornet Stadium.

“The race went really well, especially with the heat we had to run in,” Larkin said. “There was some good competition there, so I knew I would just have to go with the pack and give it my best.”

Larkin, a native of Shelley, Idaho, earned a spot on the podium and subsequent medal after finishing sixth in the event with a personal-best time of 4:32.23.

“I’m grateful for a great team and great coaches that have helped me get to this point, and have helped me achieve my goals along the way,” Larkin said. “Being able to earn a medal like this was really exciting and a good way to end my freshman season.”

The 2017 USATF Junior Track & Field Championships served as the selection meet for the 2017 Pan American Junior Championships, which are being held July 21-23 in Trujillo, Peru.
