Former Aggie Chari Hawkins Competing at U.S. Olympic Team Trials
Chari Hawkins, a five-time All-American at Utah State, is currently competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track and Field at historic Hayward Field. Hawkins took part in the first four events of the heptathlon on Saturday and is currently in 12th place with 3,536 points.

EUGENE, Ore. - Utah State’s most decorated female athlete of all-time is looking to add to her already illustrious track & field career by qualifying for the Rio de Janiero 2016 Olympic Games.

Chari Hawkins, a five-time All-American at Utah State, is currently competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track and Field at historic Hayward Field. Hawkins took part in the first four events of the heptathlon on Saturday and is currently in 12th place with 3,536 points.

Barbara Nwaba is leading the heptathlon with 3,903 points.

The heptathletes competed in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200m on Saturday.

Hawkins placed 13th in the 100m hurdles (13.71), ninth in the high jump (1.75m/5-08.75), 12th in the shot put (12.80m/42-00) and 15th in the 200m (25.01).

The final three events of the heptathlon, the long jump, javelin and 800m, will take place on Sunday.
