Two Former Aggie Track Standouts Have Success At World Championships
Aug. 13, 2001 LOGAN, Utah - Two former Utah State Aggie track standouts were part of Canada's 4x400 relay team, which established a national record and finished eighth at the World Track Championships this past weekend. Danielle Kot, who finished her USU career this past spring, and LaDonna Antoine, who graduated from USU in 1997, were the third and fourth runners on Canada's relay team. The quartet of runners established the best mark in the country with a 3:25.68 in Saturday's heat. On Sunday the relay team finished eighth with a 3:27.93 time. If they had been able to match their record time from the day before, Canada would have finished fourth in the event behind Jamaica (3:20.65), Germany (3:21.97), and Russia (3:24.92 and ahead of the United States (3:26.88). Kot, capped her USU career by winning the 100 (11.69) and 200-meter (23.96) events at the Big West Championships this past spring, while also finishing fourth in the long jump (18-5) at that meet. Kot is from Redvers, Saskatchewan.
Antoine, who owns school records in the indoor 200 meters (23.90) and 400 meters (53.05) and outdoor 200 meters (23.14) and 400 meters (51.48), was a three-time All-American at USU. Antoine won four Big West outdoor titles and three Mountain Pacific Sports Federation titles during her career. She is from Regina, Saskatchewan.
