Volleyball Defeats Lamar In Four Games To Improve To 2-0 On The Season

LOGAN, Utah - Senior Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) recorded a season-high 28 kills to lead Utah State's women's volleyball team to a four-game win (26-30, 30-20, 30-22, 30-28) against Lamar University on Friday in the first day of competition at the 2005 Hurricane Invitational hosted by Tulsa University.
Utah State improved to 2-0 on the season with the win while the Lady Cardinals dropped to 0-2 overall with the loss.
Redshirt sophomore Beth Hodge (Broken Arrow, Okla.) added 11 kills, nine digs and four service aces in the match, while senior Ingrid Roth (Barrington, Ill.) hit a team-high .600 as she posted 10 kills. Junior libero Kelsi Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) added a match-high 19 digs to go along with four service aces, while senior Victoria Zimmerman (Barrington, Ill.) dished out 49 assists in her first start of the season at setter.
As a team, Utah State hit .258 and held Lamar to a .204 hitting percentage after allowing the Lady Cardinals to hit .333 in its game one win. USU also had 11 service aces in the match as compared to nine for Lamar, and the Aggies also recorded 24 more digs (67-43) in the match.
Utah State will play two more matches on Saturday against Texas-Pan American at 1 p.m. and against the host Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 6 p.m.
