Volleyball Loses To Third-Ranked Stanford In Three Games

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team lost a three-game match (19-30, 16-30, 23-30) to third-ranked Stanford here Friday in the second night of competition at the 2005 Stanford Invitational. USU falls to 6-5 on the season with the loss, while Stanford improves to 10-1 with the win.
Senior Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) led Utah State with 10 kills, six digs and four blocks, while senior Victoria Zimmerman (Barrington, Ill.) had 22 assists and five kills, and hit a team-high .364. Senior Erin Graybill (Sandy, Utah) added seven kills and three blocks for the Aggies.
Stanford was led by Foluke Akinradewo who hit a blistering .720 during the match with 19 kills and just one error.
As a team, Utah State hit a season-low .080 as it managed only 32 kills in the contest. Stanford, however, hit .344 and had 51 kills.
Utah State will conclude play in the Stanford Invitational with a match against 23rd-ranked St. Mary's on Sat., Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. (MST).
