LOGAN, Utah - Senior Ingrid Roth (Barrington, Ill.) recorded a career-high 17 kills and senior Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) added a match-high 20 kills to lead Utah State's women's volleyball team to a four-game win (25-30, 30-21, 30-19, 30-19) against Idaho State here Monday night. USU improves to 7-6 on the year with the win, while ISU falls to 6-8 overall with the loss.
Utah State struggled on both ends of the court in the first game as it hit only .146 as compared to a .297 hitting percentage for Idaho State. USU responded in game two by hitting .410, while ISU hit .235. The Aggies picked up the defensive pressure in game three holding the Bengals to a .000 hitting percentage, while USU hit .312. In the fourth and final game, Utah State hit a blistering .500 with 21 kills and only two errors to close out the match.
Senior Erin Graybill (Sandy, Utah) added 14 kills and five blocks for the Aggies, while sophomore Carolyn Forbush (Las Vegas, Nev.) added a season-high 10 kills. Junior Kelsi Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the defensive attack for the Aggies with a match-high 15 digs.
Felice Yocopis led Idaho State with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Nikki Havens added 11 kills and six digs.
As a team, Utah State hit .337 in the match and held Idaho State to a .192 hitting percentage. USU recorded 36 more kills (81-45), 35 more assists (76-41), 15 more digs (64-49), seven more service aces (7-0), and five more team blocks (8-3) in the match.
Utah State will return to action on Thur., Sept. 22 as it begins Western Athletic Conference play against New Mexico State at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
