LOGAN, Utah - Senior Erin Graybill (Sandy, Utah) recorded 12 kills and eight blocks and sophomore Amanda Orgill (West Valley City, Utah) added 10 kills and eight blocks to lead Utah State's women's volleyball team to a four-game win at Idaho (30-18, 30-18, 20-30, 30-28) here Saturday night in Western Athletic Conference action.
Utah State improves to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the WAC with the win, while Idaho falls to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in league play with the loss. The 4-0 start to league play for USU is its best since winning its first four Big West Conference matches during the 2000 season.
Utah State dominated the first two games hitting .387 and .400 before struggling in game three with a .111 hitting percentage. In that third game, Idaho hit .333 to record the win after hitting just .065 and negative .071 in the first two games. In the fourth game, neither team performed well offensively as the Aggies hit just .083 but notched the two-point win as they held Idaho to .000 hitting percentage.
Along with her 10 kills and eight blocks, Orgill hit a team-high .450 in the match, while Graybill hit .333. Senior Zuzana Cernianska (Prague, Czech Republic) added 11 kills and 15 digs, and redshirt sophomore Beth Hodge (Broken Arrow, Okla.) had 11 kills and nine digs. Junior Kelsi Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) paced USU on defense with 22 digs.
Haley Larson led Idaho with a match-high 17 kills.
Overall, Utah State hit .221 in the match and held Idaho to a .075 hitting percentage. USU recorded seven more kills (53-46) and 13 fewer hitting errors (34-21) in the match, while the Vandals had three more service aces (10-7). USU also won the battle at the net, out-blocking Idaho 18.0-to-8.0.
Utah State will return to action on Wed., Oct. 5 when it travels to Fresno State.
