USU Volleyball Loses Three-Game Match To Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. - Utah State's volleyball team had its three-match winning stopped as the Aggies fell 3-0 at Pacific late Thursday. The Aggies fell to 9-9 overall and 3-5 in the Big West, while Pacific improved to 11-6 and 6-2.
UOP won all three matches in convincing fashion taking the first game 30-18 and following that up with a narrow 30-28 win and a 30-25 victory in the third game to seal the match.
USU was led by Zuzana Cernianska, who recorded 10 kills, while Erin Cartwright, last week's Big West Conference player of the week, added nine kills. In addition, Tereza Cernianska had nine kills and a team-best nine digs.
Cartwright added three block assists, while Z. Cernianska had 24 assists and seven digs.
For the match, USU hit just .167, while Pacific hit .278. The Tigers had two players in double-figures for kills as Jennifer Joines had 12 and Ashley Groothuis added 10.
USU entered the match at Pacific with a three-match winning streak, having defeated Brigham Young, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton at home a week ago. USU fell to 2-4 on the road, while the Tigers, who have now won five of their last six matches, improved to 4-1 at home.
USU will continue its road trip with a match at Cal State Northridge on Saturday at 8 p.m. Mountain time.
