LOGAN, Utah - Utah State claimed the second seed in the upcoming Western Athletic Conference tournament with a convincing 3-0 win against Nevada in the final regular season match for both teams here Saturday night.
Both teams entered the match tied for third place with 10-5 records. Hawai'i owned a 15-0 mark with a late night game against Louisiana Tech on Saturday and New Mexico State was second at 11-5.
USU's win ties the Aggies with New Mexico State, but due to tie-breakers, USU enters the tournament as the second seed.
USU won the first game 31-29 and then earned a 30-21 victory in the second game. USU then put the visiting Wolf Pack away in the third game, winning 30-22.
USU's second place conference finish is its best since winning the Eastern Division of the Big West Conference in 1999. In addition to its 11-5 league mark, USU is now 19-11 overall.
The WAC Tournament will begin on Thanksgiving Day in Reno, Nev.
