Volleyball Plays Texas A&M Friday In First Round Of The 2007 Holiday Inn Classic Hosted By Montana State

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team will play in its second straight preseason tournament this weekend as it travels to Bozeman, Mont., to participate in the 2007 Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Montana State University. USU will begin the tournament on Friday, Aug. 31 against Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m., followed by pair of matches on Saturday, Sept. 1 against the host Bobcats at Noon and against Washington State at 4:30 p.m.
Utah State is 1-2 thus far in 2007 after finishing in third-place at the 2007 University Plaza Wildcat Classic hosted by the University of Arizona. In that tournament, USU suffered consecutive three-game losses to Arizona and Saint Mary's before defeating Eastern Washington in four games.
Utah State is led by senior opposite side hitter Amanda Nielson (West Valley City, Utah) who was named to the all-tournament team last weekend at Arizona as she averaged 5.60 points, 4.30 kills, 2.30 digs, 0.90 service aces and 0.70 blocks per game.
Texas A&M is 3-0 on the season after defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-0), Centenary (3-0) and Prairie View A&M (3-0) to win its own Texas A&M Invitational last weekend. Montana State is 0-4 this year with losses to Middle Tennessee (3-0), Stephen F. Austin (3-1), Creighton (3-0), and South Dakota State (3-0). And Washington State is 5-0 thus far this year after defeating Portland (3-0), Northern Colorado (3-1) and South Dakota State (3-0) to win its own Baden Cougar Challenge, followed by wins against Idaho (3-0) and Gonzaga (3-1) earlier this week.
All-time, Utah State is 7-1 against Texas A&M, 7-3 against Montana State and 2-3 against Washington State.
