LOGAN, Utah - Utah State volleyball player Christine Morrill has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Sept. 28, it was announced on Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

It is the first time in her career that Morrill has been named Utah State's Athlete of the Week.

Morrill, a 5-7 sophomore libero from Neola, Utah (Union HS) helped Utah State to a 1-1 record last week with a five-set win against Nevada and a five-set loss to Fresno State. Against the Wolf Pack, Morrill recorded a career-high 27 digs to go along with two assists. Against the Bulldogs, she had 19 digs, one assist and one service ace. For the week, Morrill averaged 4.60 digs per set.

Thus far this year, Morrill is averaging 3.78 digs per set to rank fourth in the Western Athletic Conference. In three league matches, she is averaging 4.73 digs per set to rank second in the WAC.

Utah State is currently 4-10 on the season and in third-place in the WAC with a 2-1 league record. USU returns to action this weekend as it hosts Louisiana Tech on Thursday, Oct. 2 and New Mexico State on Saturday, Oct. 4 with both matches beginning at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

MEN'S TENNIS - Junior Amit Maharaj (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) advanced to the semifinal round in the consolation bracket of the Utah Intercollegiate Tournament during the weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah. Maharaj lost his opening match in straight sets, before winning his first two consolation matches. Maharaj then lost in the semifinal round, 3-6, 6-1, 9-11.

SOCCER - Junior striker Erin Salmon (Orem, Utah) scored Utah State's first goal in a 2-1 win at Wyoming as the Aggies notched a 1-1 record during the weekend. The goal was Salmon's third of the season which ties her career high. Salmon helped USU earn its first road win of the season and improve to 5-6-1 on the year. Utah State began the weekend with a 1-0 loss at Cal Poly.
