Volleyball Ranked For First Time Ever In NCAAs
Oct. 2, 2000 LOGAN, Utah - For the first time ever, Utah State's women's volleyball team is ranked in the Top-25 in the country as the Aggies are 25th in the USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches Poll and 20th in the Volleyball Magazine Poll. The NCAA began sponsorship of women's volleyball in 1982, prior to that, volleyball was affiliated with the AIAW where USU won the National Championship in 1978 and finished second in the country in 1979. "It's a privilege to be ranked," commented USU head coach Tom Peterson. "You always want to be ranked and I want to make sure that this makes us better because this things can go away real fast. For the most part it means that some people think we are good, and that's an honor." Utah State is currently 12-3 on the season and alone in first-place in the Big West Conference with a 4-0 league mark. USU has two top-10 wins to its credit already this year with three-game sweeps over BYU, who was ranked 10th at the time, and UC Santa Barbara, who was ranked ninth in the country. Over the past two season, the Aggies have won 25 of its last 32 matches and have a 15-5 league mark which is second in the conference to Pacific who is 18-2.
