LOGAN, Utah - Denae Mohlman (Shoreline, Wash.), a senior middle blocker on Utah State's volleyball team was today named the Big West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Aggies to a pair of league wins over Cal Poly and No. 9 UC Santa Barbara at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum this past weekend. Mohlman was also named Utah State's Athlete of the Week for her efforts this past week.
Mohlman had 14 kills, 10 blocks and eight digs versus the Mustangs in a five-game win where she hit .364. Against the Gauchos, Mohlman just missed the school record for blocks in a single match as she posted nine versus UCSB to go along with eight kills and seven digs. For the weekend, Mohlman hit .333 with 19 blocks and 15 digs. She averaged 2.75 kills, 1.88 digs, and 2.38 blocks per game.
It is the second time in the past three weeks, that Utah State has received player of the week honors, as senior Amy Crosbie (Visalia, Calif.) won the award on Sept. 18, when she was also named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. For Mohlman, it is the second time in her career that she has been awarded by the league as she won player of the week honors as a freshman in 1997.
Utah State is 12-3 on the season and in first-place in the Big West Conference with a 4-0 record. The Aggies have won its last 10 matches and 25 of its last 32 dating back to the 1999 campaign. Over the past two years, USU has the second best record in the Big West at 15-5, trailing only Pacific who is 18-2.
