Volleyball Plays At Boise State Saturday Night

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team continues Western Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Oct. 11 as it plays at Boise State at 7 p.m. Utah State is 5-12 on the season and in fifth-place in the WAC with a 3-3 league record following a four-set loss (25-22, 8-25, 24-26, 16-25) at Idaho Thursday night. USU is led by senior outside hitter Melissa Osterloh who is averaging 4.28 points, 3.62 kills, 1.80 digs, 0.56 blocks and 0.38 service aces per set, while sophomore middle blocker Katie Astle is hitting .327 and averaging 1.66 kills and 0.94 blocks per set. Sophomore setter Chelsea Fowles is also playing well for USU as she is hitting .333 and averaging 9.62 assists, 1.66 digs and 0.55 blocks per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .164 on the season as compared to a .230 hitting percentage for its opponents. Boise State is 5-11 on the season and tied for sixth-place in the WAC with a 2-4 league record following a three-set loss (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) at home to San Jose State Thursday night. The Broncos, who are 1-5 at home this year, are led by sophomore middle blocker Sadie Maughan who is hitting .311 and averaging 2.25 kills and 1.12 blocks per set. As a team, BSU is hitting .155 on the season as compared to a .198 hitting percentage for its opponents. Boise State returns five starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team that went 6-23 overall and finished in eighth-place in the WAC with a 3-15 league record. Robin Davis is 24-51 in his fourth season as the Broncos head coach and 245-131 in 13 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Utah State is 11-16 all-time against Boise State, which includes a 4-7 record on the road. USU swept the season series last year with the Broncos, recording a pair of three set wins. Overall, the Aggies have won 10 of the last 11 matches played in the series, including a 5-1 record since joining the WAC.
Utah State is 44-68 (.393) on the road over the last nine years, which includes a 28-41 (.406) record against league opponents. This year, USU is 1-4 on the road and 2-9 away from home. Utah State returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 16 as it hosts No. 7 Hawai'I at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. |
