LOGAN, Utah - Chelsi Neves (Otto, Wyo.), a junior setter on Utah State's volleyball team was today named the Big West Conference Co-Player of the Week after leading the Aggies to a pair of wins over No. 15 Utah and conference foe Boise State at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum this past weekend. Neves was also named Utah State's Athlete of the Week for her efforts this past week.
Neves, a junior college transfer from Sheridan, Wyo. JC, hit .500 during the week with 10 kills and only one error to go along with 17 digs, seven blocks, and 89 assists. Against Utah, Neves had seven kills, 11 digs and two block assists as the Aggies posted its first win over the Lady Utes since 1990. With the win, USU marked its first sweep over the three Utah schools (Utah, BYU, and Weber State) since 1980. Versus Boise State, the junior had three kills, six digs and five blocks to hold the Broncos to a negative hitting percentage for the entire match. Neves has 883 assists in her first year at Utah State which ranks her seventh all-time in Aggie history.
It is the third time in the past month that Utah State has received player of the week honors from the Big West Conference, as senior Amy Crosbie (Visalia, Calif.) won the award on Sept. 18, when she was also named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. Fellow senior Denae Mohlman (Shoreline, Wash.) received the award on Oct. 2 after leading the Aggies to wins over No. 9 UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly. Mohlman also won the award her freshman season in 1997. With the three awards this season, USU has now received player of the week honors in the Big West a total of five times.
Utah State is 14-5 on the season, ranked 22nd in the country, and in third-place in the Big West Conference with a 5-2 record, just one game out of first. The Aggies have won its last 12 of its last 14 matches and 27 of its last 36 dating back to the 1999 campaign.

FOOTBALL: EMMETT WHITE/ JUNIOR... led Utah State to its second straight 1-0 start in Big West play by rushing for a career-high 153 yards on 32 carries in the Aggies' 17-12 win at North Texas this past Saturday. The 5-foot-11 native of Ogden scored both of USU's touchdowns on runs of 27 yards and 16. White also had four catches for 53 yards, as well as five punt returns for 32 yards against the Mean Green. In his first year as a starter, White ranks in the BWC's top 10 in eight different categories. Nationally, he is ranked second in all-purpose yards (trails only Heisman Trophy candidate LaDanian Tomlinson of TCU, who is averaging 199.40 all-purpose yards). White is averaging 194.2.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: JAYME GORDY/ SENIOR... scored the only goal in Utah State's pair of losses this past week. Against Cal State Fullerton on Friday the 13th, the 5-foot-4 forward had a team-high five shots in the 3-0 loss. Two days later against Big West leading UC Irvine on Sunday, Gordy took four more shots and scored the Aggies' only goal late in the second half.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: REBEKAH THORNLEY/ SENIOR... finished in first place to lead the USU women harriers to a second-place finish in the Aggies' only home meet of the year last Friday at the Logan Golf and Country Club. Thornley finished just ahead of teammate Beka Leffler.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: MITCH ZUNDEL/ JUNIOR... garnered first place honors at the LGCC to lead the Aggie men's team to a first-place victory at its own Utah State Invite. Zundel was one of five Aggies to finish in the top-10.
