LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's women's volleyball team continues Western Athletic Conference play this week as it hosts Idaho at 7 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Utah State is 8-14 on the season and tied for fourth-place in the WAC with a 6-5 league record following a five-set win against Boise State (23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-13) and a four-set loss at Nevada (19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25) last weekend. USU is led by senior outside hitter Melissa Osterloh who is averaging 4.24 points, 3.63 kills, 1.90 digs, 0.55 blocks and 0.33 service aces per set, while sophomore middle blocker Katie Astle is hitting .280 and averaging 1.51 kills and 0.82 blocks per set. Sophomore setter Chelsea Fowles is also playing well for USU as she is hitting .330 and averaging 9.62 assists, 1.63 digs and 0.57 blocks per set. As a team, Utah State is hitting .173 on the season as compared to a .221 hitting percentage for its opponents.
Idaho is 14-7 on the season and in third-place in the WAC with a 7-3 league record following a three-set win at home against Boise State last weekend. The Vandals, who are 5-4 on the road this year, are led by senior outside hitter Haley Larsen who is hitting .216 on the season and averaging 4.39 kills and 2.59 digs per set. As a team, Idaho is hitting .209 this year as compared to a .145 hitting percentage for its opponents. Idaho returns six starters and nine letterwinners from last year's team that went 13-17 overall and finished in fifth-place in the WAC with a 9-7 league record. Debbie Buchanan is 129-129 in her ninth season as Idaho's head coach.
Utah State is 15-15 all-time against Idaho, which includes a 12-4 record at home. The Vandals won the first meeting between the two teams at Idaho in four sets (25-22, 8-25, 24-26, 16-25).
Over the last nine years, Utah State is 72-32 (.692) in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, which includes a 55-27 (.671) record against conference opponents. During the last four years, USU is 21-9 (.700) at home against WAC opponents. This year, USU is currently 4-4 at home.
Following its match against Idaho, Utah State will play at ninth-ranked Hawai'i (17-3, 10-1) on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 p.m. The Rainbow Wahine defeated the Aggies in three games earlier this year in Logan.
