Danley, Ripplinger Lead USU Men And Women At Prestigious Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - David Danley ran a time of 24:52 in the eight kilometer Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. to place 17th individually and led Utah State Men to a 13th-place team finish on Saturday. The Utah State women were led by Lida Ripplinger who finished 67th in the six-kilometer race with a time of 22:41. The Aggies finished 19th out of 29 teams. Stacie Liffereth and Ashley Johnson tied for 94th with a time of 23:09. Providence won the women's race behind Kim Smith who recorded a time of 20:10 to claim the individual title.. Danley has proven to be Utah State's best runner this season, leading the Aggies in each of the first three meets of the year. He improved his time from last years Griak Invitational by58 seconds and the men improved seven spots as a team. Clark Bryner placed 37th with a time of 25:16 and Trevor Ball placed 56th with a time of 25:35. "David ran great," said USU head cross country coach Gregg Gensel "We placed a lot higher this year and really accomplished something." Nationally ranked Wisconsin came in first capturing its 11th Griak title by placing six runners in the top 10. Matt Tegenkamp of Wisconsin repeated as the individual champion with a time of 24:02.
