FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Utah State men's cross country junior Kyle McKenna placed 14th out of 143 runners with a time of 25:08.4 in the Merrill Fischbein Men's Gold eight-kilometer race at the 27th annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday at the Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon Heights, Minn. Senior Alex Litzsinger led the USU women, crossing the finish line in 21st-place with a time of 21:56.0 in the Jack Johnson Women's Gold six-kilometer race, which featured 211 runners. Both McKenna and Litzsinger have led the Aggie men and women as the team's top finishers at all three meets this season. As a team, the Utah State women finished in 11th-place with 310 points, while the Aggie men also placed 11th with 243 points. Iowa State claimed the women's top team prize, while host Minnesota won the men's top honors. "Our veteran athletes ran a pretty good race today and our young athletes learned what it is like to run in a big race like this, which is why we come to these kind of meets," said Aggie veteran head coach Gregg Gensel. "We didn't do as well as we had hoped, but our goal is to keep preparing and getting better each week." Other top-75 placers for the USU men were sophomores Kade Jensen (41st, 25:51.4) and Eric Shellhorn (51st, 26:03.3), along with senior Aaron Clements (58th, 26:12.2). Freshman Tylee Newman joined Litzsinger as the Aggie women top-75 finishers as she placed 74th with a time of 23:07.0.
