BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Utah State's cross country teams became the first squads since Georgetown in 2003 to sweep the team titles at the Lehigh-hosted Paul Short Run, held Friday morning at Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.

The men's team won the team title with 119 points, finishing ahead of No. 17 Georgetown's 167 points. On the women's side, the 21st-ranked Aggies won the event with 72 points, ahead of No. 15 Villanova's 115 points.

Additionally, with senior Dillon Maggard and junior Alyssa Snyder winning their individual races, it is the first time that the same school had individuals win both the men's and women's race since Villanova accomplished the same feat in 2006.

"It was awesome and I couldn't believe it," Maggard said. "It was a special moment for sure and a major stepping stone. We are very happy and want to celebrate, but we also want to put emphasis on taking what we did well and move forward, because this is just the beginning."

The Aggie men were led by Maggard, who won for the second time this season as he finished the 8-kilometer race with a personal-best time of 23:27. The native of Kirkland, Wash., was victorious against a field of more than 350 runners.

Sophomores Luke Beattie and James Withers both finished inside the top 25 as they went 21st and 23rd with personal bests of 24:00 and 24:04, respectively.

The women's team was led by Snyder, who has now won all three races she has competed in for Utah State. She finished first in the women's 6-kilometer run with a time of 19:48.

"In the past, my cross country seasons have been pretty tough," Snyder said. "I had a lot of injuries and problems with confidence, so it's been amazing to have some success so immediately with Utah State and coach (Artie) Gulden."

The Aggies' depth was equally as impressive, as all seven Aggie runners finished within the top 34 of the field of 367. In fact, three other Aggies found themselves in the top 20 finishers, as junior Presli Hutchison finished 14th with a time of 20:22, junior Cierra Simmons ran a 20:24 to place 16th and senior Tori Parkinson took 18th with a personal-best time of 20:25.

"The whole team is just elated right now," Snyder said. "We beat a top-15 team today and we were able to be there for each other and support each other throughout the race. This is such a cohesive and hard-working group, and I think we're going to continue seeing a great deal of success as a result of that."

In the men's open race to begin the day, sophomore Adam Hendrickson won the 8-kilometer run with a time of 24:36. After the men's race, senior Kelsey Girardelli placed 15th in the women's open race with a time of 21:53 in the 6-kilometer run.

"Adam set the tone for the rest of the day and all of us got motivation from seeing him finish and winning the race," Maggard said. "We've got pre-nationals in two weeks, so we're just going to move forward from here and this is going to give us a lot of confidence."

Utah State is back in action on Friday, Oct. 6, when the Aggies host the Steve T. Reeder Memorial at 3 p.m.
