Louisville, KY. - Utah State's women's cross country team fared well in a seeded race against eight nationally-ranked opponents.

The Aggies were spurred on by freshman Kashley Carter, who placed 24th with a time of 20:30.5, to help the Utah State record 676 points and place 27th out of 45 teams at the Pre-Nationals meet held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park Saturday.

"We had a solid outing against regional competition led by Kashley Carter's 24th-place finish," said USU head coach Gregg Gensel. "Her finish marks the highest individual finish at Pre-Nationals by an Aggie runner in recent memory."

Finishing behind Carter was senior Jacqueline Winterton, who came in 151st with a time of 21:28.3. Following Winterton came a herd of Aggies, including sophomore Kelsey Yamauchi, who crossed the line 171st (21:34.6), junior Tori Parkinson, who placed 173rd (21:36.1), and a 175th-place finish by sophomore Jackie Heaps (21:36.8).

On the men's side, Utah State was led by junior Colby Wilson who placed 35th overall in the men's unseeded 8,000m Race with a time of 24:48.8 to help the Aggie men finish 15th out of 31 teams.

Following Wilson was  junior Ben Johnston who placed 40th by recording a time of 24:50.4. Others in the front five were sophomore  Justin Sheets, finishing 53rd (24:59.8), sophomore Dillon Maggard, crossing the line 70th (25:11.3), and freshman Kody Gould placing 164th (26:09.3).

Utah State cross country will get a week of rest and then return to action on Friday, Oct. 30, at the Nevada-hosted 2015 Mountain West Championships at Montrêux Golf Course in Reno, Nev.
