FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Utah State's men and women's cross country teams finished competition for the 2012 season at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships at the Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins, Colo. on Friday.

The USU women ended the day in 10th-place as a team with 326 points, while the men tallied 315 points to finish 14th. Ironically, the Aggie women and men matched their ranking in the Mountain Region entering the weekend, as the women ranked 10th and the men were 14th, according to the latest ranking by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Weber State's women claimed the top team prize Friday out of 20 teams, along with the Northern Arizona men sitting atop the standings out of 18 teams.

Senior Alex Litzsinger led all Aggie harriers as she finished in 19th-place with a time of 21:08.4 in the women's six-kilometer race. Freshman Tylee Newman crossed the finish line in 64th-place (22:13.4), joining Litzsinger as the two top-75 finishers for the Utah State women.

On the men's side, junior Kyle McKenna was the first to cross the finish line for the USU men in the 10-kilometer race, as he placed 26th with a time of 30:53.1, followed by sophomore Eric Shellhorn (44th, 31:31.3) and senior Aaron Clements (74th, 32:32.6).

Other finishers for the Aggie women were seniors Ruth Hilton (78th, 22:35.8) and Stephanie Burt (80th, 22:37.7), freshmen Jacqueline Winterton (85th, 22:45.3) and Kelsey Girardelli (98th, 23:10.2), as well as junior Hannah Williams (99th, 23:10.4

Rounding out the runners for the Utah State men was sophomore Jacob Barton (80th, 32:38.0), freshmen Chris Martinez (91st, 33:06.0) and Kade Jensen (97th, 33:23.2), and junior Jason Coupe (110th, 34:19.3).

The top two teams in each race automatically qualified for the 2012 NCAA Championships, along with the top four runners not on a team that is already advancing. All runners finishing in the top 25 of each race will be named to the all-Region team.

The 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships will be hosted by the University of Louisville at the E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday November 17. It is the first time since World War II that the NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held on a Saturday.
