LOGAN, Utah - -
Utah State men's cross country team is ranked 12th in the Mountain Regional Preseason Team Rankings announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Aggie men and women harriers open the 2013 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 with their lone home meet of the season, the Aggie Invitational.
Utah State is beginning its first season of competition in the Mountain West Conference following eight years in the Western Athletic Conference. The Aggies are one of five Mountain West members to be ranked in the top-15 in the region. USU is joined by New Mexico, Air Force and Colorado State, who rank 4-6, as well as Wyoming, who comes in at 8th in the rankings.
Additionally, the Aggies are one of five teams from the Beehive State that is ranked in the Mountain Region Poll. USU is joined by BYU (3rd), Utah Valley (7th) and Southern Utah (10th).
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
USU's men and women's cross country teams will begin the 2013 season by hosting the Aggie Invitational on Saturday at Innovation Campus Wellness Park, which is located at 1498 North 800 East in Logan. The meet will kickoff at 9 a.m., with several high school varsity and junior varsity teams also competing at the conclusion of the collegiate races.
