Utah State Men's Cross Country Ranked 12th In Preseason Mountain Regional Team Rankings

Utah State's men's and women's cross country teams were both picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West Conference Preseason Polls, as voted on by the league's 11 coaches and announced by the conference office. The Aggie men received 24 points and the women's team garnered 63 points, both good for fifth-place in their first season in the Mountain West Conference after eight seasons in the Western Athletic Conference.
New Mexico, who won both the men and women's titles at the 2012 Mountain West Championships, topped both polls. The Lobos picked up seven first-place votes and 49 points total to earn the top spot. Air Force was slated second with 42 points and received the lone remaining first-place vote. Boise State and Colorado State tied for third with 34 points, followed by newcomer Utah State. Wyoming came in at the sixth spot with 20 points and was followed by Fresno State with 13 points. San Jose State rounded out the men's poll with nine points.
On the women's side, the Lobos collected 10 of the 11 first-place votes to top the poll with 100 total points. The second and third spots were separated by two points with Boise State taking second with 85 points and Colorado State following with 83 points and the other first-place vote. Air Force came in at fourth with 72 points, one spot ahead of the Aggies, who collected 63 points. Wyoming was tabbed sixth with 57 points and were followed by Nevada and Fresno State with 47 and 37 points, respectively. The final three places were separated by five points, with UNLV taking ninth with 23 points, followed by San Diego State with 20 points and San Jose State with 18.
The Air Force Academy will host the 2013 Mountain West Cross Country Championships at the Eisenhower Blue Course on Friday, Nov. 1.
USU's men and women's cross country teams will kickoff the 2013 season as host of the Aggie Invitational on Saturday at Innovation Campus Wellness Park, located at 1498 North 800 East in Logan. The meet will begin at 9 a.m., with several high school varsity and junior varsity teams also competing at the conclusion of the collegiate races.
