LOGAN, Utah - Utah State junior cross country athlete Alyssa Snyder has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 3, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
It is the first time this year and in her career she has earned the award.
Last week, Snyder, a Coalville, Utah native, won the Utah State-hosted Sagebrush Invitational with a time of 17:39.35 over the 5K course, helping the Aggies win the team competition, as well. She finished 20 seconds ahead of second place.
Utah State's cross country teams are back in action in two weeks when they compete at the BYU Autumn Classic on Saturday, Sept. 16.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY – Senior Dillon Maggard (Kirkland, Wash.) won the Utah State-hosted Sagebrush Invitational last weekend with a time of 21:12.62 over the 7K course, helping the Aggies win the team competition, as well.
FOOTBALL – Junior linebacker Suli Tamaivena (Kirkland, Wash.) led Utah State with seven tackles in its 59-10 season-opening loss at No. 9 Wisconsin. Tamaivena also recovered a fumble in the first quarter and returned it 13 yards, setting up USU’s only touchdown of the game.
SOCCER – Freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo (Holladay, Utah) led Utah State to a 1-0 record last week with a 2-0 road win at Idaho State. Against the Bengals, Cardozo scored her third game-winning goal of the season, putting the Aggies on the board on a free kick in the 25th minute. She later added her first-career assist, feeding the ball to sophomore forward Alecia Robinson for a goal in the 90th minute. In the match, Cardozo took a team-high four shots, all of which were on goal, while playing the full 90 minutes.
VOLLEYBALL – Junior libero Tasia Taylor (Taylorsville, Utah) ran her double-digit dig streak to six, recording double-digit digs in each of Utah State’s matches last weekend as the Aggies went 2-1 at the Utah State Invitational. USU opened the tournament with a 3-2 win against Pacific, where Taylor recorded a match-high 21 digs and added four assists and one service ace. In their 3-1 loss to Montana State, Taylor led the Aggies with 16 digs and added two assists and two service aces. In the tournament finale against UC Santa Barbara, Taylor led all players with a match-high 19 digs and added four assists and one service ace. For the week, Taylor totaled 56 digs, averaging 4.67 per set, and added 10 assists and a team-high four service aces. Taylor is currently ranked third in the Mountain West, averaging 4.95 digs per set.
