Competition Ramps Up For USU Cross Country Teams Saturday at Paul Short Run
Oct. 4, 2013
LOGAN, Utah - After enjoying a week off, Utah State's men and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Aggie men will be running in the Men's College Gold 8K Race that starts at 9 a.m. (MT), while the USU women will be running in the Women's College Gold 6K Race that starts at 9:45 a.m. (MT).
Other women's races include the Open Women's 6K Race that will begin at 8 a.m., Women's College Brown 6K Race (11 a.m.) and Women's College White 6K Race (12:30 p.m.). In addition to the Men's College Gold race, men's races will include the Open Men's 8K Race at 8:10 a.m., Men's College Brown 8K Race (10:15 a.m.) and Men's College White 8K Race (11:45 a.m.).
In total, the meet will consist of 3,836 runners from 290 collegiate teams, as well as 2,117 high school runners and 92 unattached runners. This is a huge step up in competition for the Aggies, who have yet to face more than seven teams in a single meet this season.
"This meet is the most competition as well as one of the toughest we have all year. This is a great challenge for our kids, who don't get to run against this kind of national championship-caliber competition very often. We have a young team who need this kind of big race experience, and we're excited to see what they can do," veteran USU head coach Gregg Gensel said.
Results from the Paul Short Run will be posted for fans to view at www.utahstateaggies.com as soon as they become available.
The 2013 season will continue for USU cross country at the Southern Utah Invitational in Cedar City, Utah on Friday, Oct. 11.
