Logan, Utah -
Utah State’s women’s cross country team moved up one spot to eighth in the Mountain Regional Team Rankings announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The USU men’s team fell back one spot to 11th.
Five other Mountain West women’s teams were also ranked in the poll. USU is joined in the rankings by New Mexico (1st), Air Force (6th), Colorado State (7th), Wyoming (13th) and Nevada (14th).
The Aggie men are one of five Mountain West members to be ranked in the top-15 in the region. USU is joined by Colorado State, New Mexico, Air Force and Wyoming, who remain ranked 4-7, respectively.
Additionally, four other women’s teams from the state of Utah were picked in the top-15. BYU (3rd), Weber State (5th), Utah (10th) and Southern Utah (11th) join the Aggies in the rankings.
Utah State’s men are one of four teams from the Beehive State that are ranked in the Mountain Region Poll. Along with USU, BYU (3rd), Weber State (13th) and Utah Valley (14th) are ranked.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Utah State is coming off a successful weekend in which the Aggies faced a dramatic step-up in competition at the Lehigh University hosted Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. USU's men's team finished ninth out of 47 at the meet, while the women's team placed 21st out of 48 teams.
The Aggies will return to action Saturday, October 19 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind.
