LOGAN, Utah -
Overall, it is the second time this year and 11th time in his career Maggard has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.

Last week, the Kirkland, Wash., native earned first-team all-conference honors for the second-consecutive year as he placed third individually at the Mountain West Championships, held in Albuquerque, N.M. Maggard ran the 8-kilometer race in 23:54.45 to lead USU to a fourth-place finish as a team with 93 points. Maggard’s third-place finish is the highest by any Aggie at the MW Championship meet since USU joined the league in 2012.
The Aggies are back in action in two weeks when they host the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 10. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:15 a.m. at the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY – Junior Alyssa Snyder (Coalville, Utah) earned first-team all-conference honors last week by placing sixth individually at the conference championships, held in Albuquerque, N.M. Snyder ran the 6-kilometer race in 20:55.40 to lead the way for the Aggies to a third-place finish as a team with 73 points. Her sixth-place finish was the highest for an Aggie woman at the MW Championship meet since USU joined the conference in 2012.
FOOTBALL – Redshirt freshman S Baron Gajkowski (Alpine, Utah) had a career-high 11 tackles, including a career-best 1.5 tackles for loss, in Utah State’s 41-14 Mountain West home loss against Boise State last weekend. For Gajkowski, it was his first-career double-digit tackle outing.
SOCCER – Freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo (Holladay, Utah) scored Utah State's only goal in a 2-1 Mountain West home loss to Boise State last weekend. Cardozo scored her ninth goal of the season in the 15th minute of the match against the Broncos. In the match, she took four shots, all of which were on goal.
MEN’S TENNIS – Freshman Jose Carvajal (Pereira, Colombia) finished with a 4-1 record at the Arizona-hosted Fall Hidden Dual last week. Carvajal finished 2-1 in singles with victories over Grand Canyon's Lorenzo Fucile and Fresno State's Henrique Osorio in straight sets, and went 2-0 in doubles action with senior Jaime Barajas with victories over teams from Arizona and Grand Canyon.
WOMEN’S TENNIS – Sophomore Sophia Haleas (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) won the Orange Flight in singles at the Boise State-hosted Barb Chandler Classic last week. Haleas finished 4-0 in singles play with victories over Idaho State's Kristen Newell and Melissa Coburn, Eastern Washington's Rachel Swindell and Boise State's Vanessa Trimm. Haleas also advanced to the doubles semifinals with sophomore Rhoda Tanui, finishing with a 2-1 record with victories over teams from Idaho State and Montana.
VOLLEYBALL – Junior libero Tasia Taylor (Taylorsville, Utah) recorded double-digit digs in each of Utah State’s home matches last week as the Aggies lost 3-0 to New Mexico before posting a 3-0 victory against UNLV. Against the Lobos, Taylor led the USU back row with 16 digs and added two assists. Against the Rebels, Taylor recorded a school-record 25 digs in the three-set match and added three assists and one service ace. For the week, Taylor totaled 41 digs, averaging 6.83 per set, and added five assists and one service ace.
