Trever Ball Named USU Athlete Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Aggie cross country runner Trever Ball was named Utah State Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 30, it was announced on Tuesday. The weekly honor is selected by a local media panel.

The senior from Hyrum, Utah, led Utah State's men's cross country team to their first WAC conference title on Saturday. He finished first in the eight-kilometer race with a time of 24:12.87, edging out 45 other runners.

Ball was also named Cross Country Athlete of the Year and named as a first-team all-WAC selection. He has been selected as the XBOX Live WAC Cross Country Athlete of the week four times this year.

The win marked the first WAC Championship USU has claimed. The Aggie men also broke a WAC record with the lowest team score with 16 points, edging the record set in 1981 by UTEP with 17. Utah State placed six runners in the top 10 at the championships.

The Aggies' next action will be at the NCAA Regional Championships in Provo, Utah, on Nov. 11.

Other USU Athlete of the week nominees included:

Cross Country- Tiffany Strickland ... Senior finished second in the WAC Championships with a time of 17:41.83 in the six-kilometer race competing against 62 other runners. Utah State finished the women's race in second with 43 points placing behind Idaho with 30.

Football- Ryan Bohm... Freshman offense TB ran for a career-high 94 yards and caught two passes for 17 more yards against a defense that was ranked in the top 10 nationally in five defensive categories. He also posted a long run of 29 yards. His 94 yards were the second most by an Aggie back in the last 20 games.

Soccer- Liz Masson... Senior defender led Utah State to a pair of shutout victories last week against Boise State (4-0) and Idaho (2-0). The Aggie backline allowed just four shots against Boise State and six against Idaho. Masson was also a presence on offense as she tallied her second career assist against the Broncos on Friday and her first career goal against the Vandals on Sunday. For the week, USU out-shot its opponents 49-10.

Volleyball- Ingrid Roth... Senior middle blocker led Utah State to a 2-0 record last week with wins against Fresno State (3-0) and San Jose State (3-1). Against the Bulldogs, Roth tied her career-high with 17 kills to go along with six blocks as she hit .519 (17-3-27) in the match. Against the Spartans, she had 14 kills, seven blocks and two service aces and hit .448 (14-1-29). For the week, Roth hit .482 and averaged 4.43 kills and 1.86 blocks per game.
