Dillon Maggard Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week
Dillon Maggard earned all-region honors last week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State senior cross country runner Dillon Maggard has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 12, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

Overall, it is the third time this year and 12th time in his career Maggard has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.

With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

Last week, the Kirkland, Wash., native earned all-region honors for the second-consecutive year by placing seventh at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships, hosted by Utah State. Maggard ran the 10-kilometer race in 30:26.4 to lead the Aggies to a seventh-place finish as a team, good enough to earn an at-large bid for the team to the NCAA National Championships. It will be the first appearance as a team at the national championship race in program history.

The NCAA National Championship race will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, and hosted by Louisville at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park with the women running at 8:45 a.m. (MT) and the men at 9:45 a.m. (MT).

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:
MEN’S BASKETBALL
– Senior forward Alex Dargenton (Fort-de-France, Martinique) led Utah State with 12 points and four rebounds in its season-opening 65-59 road loss at Weber State last weekend. Dargenton shot 50.0 percent (4-of-8) from the floor and 80.0 percent (4-of-5) at the free throw line, playing in 29 minutes, second-best on the team.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard Olivia West (Launceston, Tasmania, Australia) led Utah State in its 87-84 season-opening road loss at UC Irvine last weekend. In her first-career start, West scored a career-high 32 points, to go along with four rebounds and one assist. On the night, West shot 62.5 percent (10-of-16) from the field, 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the 3-point line and 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the free throw line.

 

 

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY – Junior Kashley Carter (Mona, Utah) earned all-region honors for the second-consecutive year by placing 11th at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships, hosted by Utah State last weekend. Carter finished the 6-kilometer race in 20:29.0 to lead the Aggies to a fourth-place team finish, good enough to earn an at-large bid for the team to the NCAA National Championships. It will be the first appearance as a team at the national championship race in program history.

VOLLEYBALL – Senior opposite Kayla DeCoursey averaged close to a double-double last week as Utah State posted a 1-1 Mountain West record with a 3-0 loss at Boise State and a 3-2 home win against Air Force. Against the Broncos, DeCoursey finished second on the team with five kills, hitting .231 (5-2-13), and added four digs and one block assist. Against the Falcons, DeCoursey recorded her first career double-double with 13 kills and a career-high 17 digs, tacking on four block assists and one assist. For the week, DeCoursey totaled 18 kills, averaging 2.25 per set and hit .216 (18-7-51), while adding 21 digs, five block assists and one assist.
