Logan, Utah -
Utah State's men and women's cross country teams will travel a short distance south to Riverdale, Utah, Friday, Nov. 15, to compete in the 2013 NCAA Mountain Region Championships. The meet will be hosted by Weber State University at Schneiter’s Riverdale Golf Course.
The men’s 10-kilometer race will kick-off the action at 12 p.m. (MT) and the six-kilometer women’s race will follow at 1:15 p.m. Results and a recap will be posted to www.UtahStateAggies.com, when available.
Heading into the Mountain Region Championships, the USU men rank 11th in the region while the Aggie women are ranked 12th, according to the latest ranking by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
"We're excited for the opportunity to run close to home in a familiar environment, which will also allow our friends and families to come watch and cheer us on. I was very pleased with our performances at the Mountain West Championships meet and we've continued to train well as we strive to improve each meet, and I'm anxious to see how well they can do Friday," said veteran USU head coach Gregg Gensel.
Junior Eric Shellhorn led the USU men to an eighth-place finish at the 2013 Mountain West Conference Championships earlier this month. Shellhorn finished sixth overall with a time of 24:44.46, earning a spot on the first-team all-Mountain West squad.
Junior Ashley Robison was the main catalyst behind the USU women’s fifth-place team finish at the Mountain West Championships, crossing the finish line in 14th-place with times of 22:11.96. Robison’s effort was good enough for second-team all-Mountain West.

The top two teams in each race Friday will automatically advance to NCAA Championships, as will the top four individual athletes in each race that are not on a team advancing. Those finishing in the top 25 on Friday will also receive all-Region honors. The results from the nine regions across the country will be compiled by the NCAA to determine the at-large bids, which will be announced on Saturday.
The 2013 NCAA Cross Country National Championships will be hosted by Indiana State University at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday Nov. 23.
