Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"I have no problem with our effort. We played really, really hard. Louisiana Tech just seems to find a way to win close games like this. (Raheem) Appleby makes a big shot and maybe if we'd put a little more pressure on him, I don't know. They've won a lot of games like this where it's down to the stretch, down to the end. They find a way and that's how you win championships. They're a very good basketball team. They cause all kinds of problems with their quickness and shot-blocking ability. Our guys kept battling. We had chances. We have limitations, but as I told them afterward, as long as you compete and try that hard, we'll live with the results. That's the position we're in right now. Having 50 rebounds indicates we tried pretty dang hard. We missed a lot of layups. You get a few of those down and it's a different story. We couldn't quite finish them. I thought Jarred (Shaw) was totally playing as hard as he could play, which we needed him to do. It was kind of a grind-out game, probably the kind of game that we had a chance in. In our present situation we needed to have that kind of game."
Junior Center Jarred Shaw...
"It was disappointing, but like Coach said, we can't just sit and harp over this, we've got another game coming up. We're short guys, but we can't get down about it. If we get down about it, that will just hurt our team. It's a loss, but we just have to try and stay positive. We stepped it up defensively after Coach talked to us. You just learn from it. We'll go back and watch the film and try to stay positive. I washed all the negativity from my life. I've been in a bit of a slump and down on myself. I just thank God I had a great game tonight."
Louisiana Tech Head Coach Michael White...
"First of all, credit Utah State. They've fought so much adversity the last little bit. They're extremely competitive. They're still the Utah State that has dominated the WAC for a lot of years. Our guys got in and executed and fought their butts off. They got after us. They are very physical and played really hard. We really struggled to defend the glass. They're tough. They're mentally tough and physically tough. That's what we strive to do."
