LOGAN, Utah (AP) - Bernard Rock scored 21 points to lead Utah State University to a 71-57 win over Idaho on Saturday night.
Idaho (4-15, 1-7 Big West Conference) remained in striking distance against the Aggies (18-2, 7-0) until Rock managed a steal and layup to make the score 56-44 with 9:20 left to play.
Utah State then went into a zone defense that forced the Vandals into several hurried, unsuccessful point attempts as the shot clock wound down. Idaho shot 35 percent from the field in the game, and only 30 percent the second half.
USU took a 38-30 halftime lead, due in part to a tough inside defense highlighted by four blocks and five steals. Curtis Bobb, who scored 13 points on the game, and Tony Brown dropped in two three-pointers each to pace the Aggies.
Matt Gerschefske led Idaho with 15 points and Marquis Holmes with 11 rebounds.
The win gives Utah State 26 consecutive conference wins. With 12 victories
in a row, the Aggies have the fourth-longest winning streak in the country.
