IRVINE, Calif. - Spencer Nelson scored 18 of his 25 points in the second half to lead Utah State in a 77-52 rout of UC Irvine Thursday night.

Nelson made 10 of 12 shots, including both 3-point attempts, in finishing one point shy of his career best.

Nate Harris, who is third in the nation in shooting percentage, and Jason Williams had 12 points apiece for the Aggies (14-5, 5-3 Big West Conference). Chris Huber added 11.

Aaron Fitzgerald scored 18 points and Ross Schraeder had 15 points for the Anteaters (9-7, 3-5), whose three-game winning streak ended.

Irvine held a 27-25 lead with 5:44 left in the first half but Utah State used a 7-0 surge to take a 32-27 halftime lead. The Aggies started the second half with a 6-0 spurt to build a 38-27 advantage with 2:45 gone in the half.

The Anteaters narrowed their deficit to 40-33 but Nelson made two 3-pointers during an 8-0 run that extended Utah State's lead to 48-33 with 12:31 remaining.

The Aggies, second in the nation in field-goal percentage, shot 72 percent in the second half and 59.6 percent for the game.
