LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"It got a little scary there in the second half when we had a hard time stopping them off the drive, they are quick and (James) Kinney was having a great night. We just got a nice spurt there and that was the difference in the game. I liked the energy that we played with; our guys were having fun playing basketball, we got a lot of open looks. It is always nice to see a guy like Mitch (Bruneel), who hasn't got to play a whole lot lately but has practiced pretty well and that is what gave me some confidence in putting him in, and boy, did he respond when we really needed some shots in the first half. That was good to see. Kyisean (Reed) had an awfully big night, obviously that is positive. It is an odd sort of game when you play San Jose State, they make it difficult because they play that match-up zone that causes you problems. Offensively we didn't have many problems, I thought that we played well offensively. We just had a little trouble guarding them and they made it real interesting there in the second half, they had the chance to take the lead at one point. Good win, good weekend, we did what we needed to do, we held home-court and now we are heading out on the road again."
Sophomore Forward Mitch Bruneel...
"Coach just said `be ready and be confident,' so I figured whatever minutes I could get I would just play hard and do my best. I took a few shots after shoot-around today and I think that helped my confidence a little bit. We focused on moving the ball around when they're playing that zone and we're going to get it."
San Jose State Head Coach George Nessman...
"We needed to defend better. They had 47 points in the first half, obviously some of that they had a good plan for us. We changed some things at half and just said we had to guard better. I really think the difference in the game was the three-point shooting. They made 10 out of 21 and we made 5 out of 22. Almost all of the factors in the game - turnovers, rebounds, field goal percentage - everything else was really close, but that was the deciding factor. They knocked down their threes and won by 17, beating us by 15 at the three-point line."
