SAN DIEGO, Calif.
Utah State is now 5-9 in Mountain West play and 15-11 overall, losing its last two after a three-game win streak.
USU is now 3-6 on the road this season, dropping six of its last seven road games, all MW games, after going 2-0 on the road before conference play. Utah State has won 31 of its last 56 road games and is 109-92 in road games under head coach Stew Morrill.
The Aggies are now 4-6 this season and 78-34 during the last 14 years following a loss.
USU is now 1-9 when trailing at halftime.
Utah State's 22 points in the first half were its fewest in the first half this season, as its previous low was 24, done twice and in back-to-back games, first at UNLV on Jan. 22 and vs. the same San Diego State team, on Jan. 24.
USU's 45 points in the game were its second-lowest scoring output this season, behind its season-low 42 points at UNLV on Jan. 22... The Aggies are now 1-4 this season and 27-54 under Morrill when scoring less than 60 points.
The Aggies are now 3-5 when getting out-rebounded, after the slim, 33-32, SDSU advantage Tuesday.
Utah State and San Diego State met for just the fifth time ever, with SDSU winning the last two to cut USU's lead in the series to 3-2. Tuesday was Utah State's first visit to San Diego since Nov. 24, 1998, which was the fourth game of USU head coach Stew Morrill's first season at USU. The Aggies are now 1-1 in San Diego. The five meetings is the fewest played series between USU and a Mountain West opponent, with the 14 meetings with Air Force the Aggies' next fewest played series.
USU is now 16-96 all-time against Associated Press ranked teams including a 5-18 record under Morrill. Overall, USU has lost its last eight games against AP Top 25 teams with its last win coming on March 9, 2007, against No. 10 Nevada, 79-77, in the semifinals of the 2007 WAC Tournament. This was the first time that the Aggies have played more than one ranked team in a season since the 2001-11 season, when they played three, as well as the first time USU has faced the same team in a season twice being nationally ranked both times since the 2006-07 season, when the Aggies playing Nevada twice when the Wolf Pack were nationally ranked, winning 79-77 in both meetings, in OT at home on March 1, 2007 and in the WAC Tournament a week later on March 9, 2007.
Utah State is 130-33 against teams from the state of California during the last 13 years, including 44-25 on California soil. USU is now 4-3 against California teams this season, including 3-2 at home and 1-1 in California, as well as 1-2 against a team from San Diego, beating San Diego Christian, 84-53, on Dec. 28, before falling to then seventh-ranked San Diego State, 74-69 in OT, on Jan. 25, both in Logan, then Tuesday's loss at SDSU.
Utah State is now 81-35 during the month of February under Morrill, including a 32-26 on the road.
USU is 3-3 this season on Tuesdays and 26-10 in games played on Tuesday under Morrill.
The Aggies are now 9-6 in known games on Feb. 18, playing on the date for the second time in three years.
Senior guard Preston Medlin became the 16th USU player with 1,300 career points, entering the night at 1,299 and netting a three-pointer at 17:04 of the first half.
With his five points Tuesday, Medlin now has 1,304 career points.
Medlin netted one three-pointer Tuesday for his 203rd career trey, needing six more for the No. 4 spot on the Aggies' career three-pointers list.
Senior guard/forward Spencer Butterfield netted 10 points Tuesday, including two three-pointers, giving him 104 career treys, needing eight more for No. 11 on USU's career three-pointers list.
Butterfield now has scored in double-figures in 21 games this season and in 40 of his last 49 career games.
Tuesday was Butterfield's 25th time in 26 games this season in making at least one three-pointer and 48 of last 51 games... With his two treys Tuesday, Butterfield now has 17 multi three-pointer games, including 11 of the last 15 games this season as part of 31 career multi-trey games.
Senior center Jarred Shaw's 10 points was his 16th game this season with double-figure points, as well as 14 of last 18 games, including in 40 of 50 career games.
With a team-high seven rebounds Tuesday, Shaw has led USU on the boards in a team-leading 14 games... It was also the 14th game in last 16 games played snaring at least seven rebounds.
Freshman guard Viko Noma'aea tallied a career-high six points, doubling his previous career-best of three points, done three previous times.
