Aggies Hold On For 64-62 Win At Boise State

BOISE, Idaho - Jaycee Carroll led four Utah State players in double-figure scoring with 18 points as Utah State held on for a 64-62 win against Boise State here Thursday night.
With the win, Utah State improves to 19-6 on the year and 9-4 in the Western Athletic Conference, and is in second-place in the WAC behind Nevada who is 10-3 in the league and 21-5 overall. Boise State falls to 13-13 on the year with the loss and 5-9 in league play.
Utah State led by 15 points at 64-49 with 5:05 remaining in the game on a jumper by David Pak before Boise State finished the game on a 13-0 run led by Coby Karl who had 11 points during that stretch. During the Broncos run, Utah State was 0-3 from the field and committed four turnovers.
Boise State had a chance to tie the game in the final :20 seconds following a Utah State turnover, but Karl missed an 18-footer as time expired. Karl finished the game by scoring 19 points, including 16 in the second-half.
Utah State led 41-26 at the half behind 15 points from Carroll and 13 from Nate Harris. In the opening period, USU shot 63.0 percent from the field and held Boise State to 31.3 percent shooting.
Utah State's biggest lead of the game came on two free throws by Chaz Spicer with 13:08 remaining to push its lead to 53-35.
Spicer finished the game with 13 points for Utah State, while Harris had 18 and Cass Matheus chipped in with 10 points for the visitors.
Utah State finished the game by shooting 52.1 percent from the field, while holding Boise State to 39.7 percent shooting. USU also out-rebounded the Broncos 35-29.
Utah State will return to action on Sat., Feb. 25 when it hosts 25th-ranked Nevada at 7:05 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
