LOGAN, Utah - Junior guard Preston Medlin led a quartet of double-figure scores with a game-high 18 points as Utah State routed Simon Fraser, 92-56, in the Aggies' final exhibition game of the preseason here inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum Saturday night.
Medlin finished the night shooting 6-of-10 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range and 4-for-4 at the free throw line in just 24 minutes of action, to go along with four assists.
Junior center Jarred Shaw added 12 points for Utah State, while senior forward Kyisean Reed and junior forward Marvin Jean each had 11. Reed also had a game-high seven rebounds, while junior point guard TeNale Roland finished the night with nine points, three steals and a game-high nine assists with just one turnover in 26 minutes.
Simon Fraser, who lost at Utah 71-36 Friday night, was led by Anto Olah's 13 points while Matt Raivio had 12 points.
Utah State finished the game shooting 60.0 percent overall (33-55), including 50.0 percent from three-point range(8-16) and 64.3 percent at the free throw line (18-28). Simon Fraser shot just 32.8 percent in the game (20-61), including just 29.4 percent from behind the arc (7-24) and 64.3 percent at the charity stripe (9-14).
Utah State also dominated the glass as it out-rebounded Simon Fraser by 20 (45-25). USU also had five more assists (19-14), four more blocks (4-0) and three more steals (9-6), while committing two more turnovers (15-13).
Utah State opened the game by making nine of its first 11 shots in building a 20-11 advantage just six minutes into the game. Three of those nine made field goals were dunks by Reed who led USU with 40 a year ago. USU's lead swelled to 14 at 33-19 with 6:58 to play in the half on a three-pointer by Jean and the Aggies then closed the half on a 12-4 run to lead 47-28 at intermission.
Medlin and Reed each had 10 points in the first half for Utah State as it shot a blistering 70.4 percent from the field (19-27) and 57.1 percent from three-point range (4-of-7), while also going 5-of-8 (.625) at the charity stripe.
Utah State continued to extend its lead in the second half as a layup by sophomore center Jordan Stone gave the home team its first 30-point margin of the game at 66-36 with 13:55 to play, and the Aggies took its largest lead of the night by doubling up the Clan, 86-43, with 5:43 remaining following a Stone free throw.
USU will tip off the regular-season schedule by hosting Idaho State on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. USU opens the season with four-straight home games at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Utah State men's basketball season tickets for the 2012-13 season are on sale at the USU Ticket Office. Ticket prices are $230 in non-priority areas and $220 in priority areas, which have Big Blue Scholarship Fund per seat commitment fees apply, ranging from $100-$900 per seat in addition to ticket cost.
