Head coach Tim Duryea
“It was a typical exhibition game where you're trying to play everyone on the roster. It's always a challenge to try and get 15 guys minutes and they got 19 guys minutes so it was a fire drill out there at times in terms of substitutions.
“To start the game we had a little bit of the jitters, a little bit of the deer-in-the-headlights look going on. But, we settled in. The second group came in and really did a good job defensively, got stops, got out in transition, attacked the rim a little bit and loosened us all up. I was really thrilled with their defensive effort more than anything.
“We kind of picked it up with that second group, then we guarded a lot better in the second half when they came back. Individually, some guys had some really good nights. It was fun to see Koby McEwen finally in the Spectrum. I thought he adjusted fairly well. Our veteran guys in the second half really did a good job too. Jalen (Moore) and Shane (Rector), I thought both were very solid, very steady on both ends of the floor.
“Our guards are ahead of our bigs. That's where the majority of the experience on our team is, on the guard line. We are kind of a jumbled mess on the front line right now. We've got to figure out who is playing in what spot, who's in rotation and who's not in rotation, who can play multiple spots, how much we're going to play small ball, those things are all up in the air. I wish it were a little more settled on the front line but we've got to continue making progress there.“
Sophomore forward Quinn Taylor
“I feel like tonight we played really hard. It was good to finally play another team in the Spectrum. Getting all the new guys an opportunity to play in front of the home crowd was good. Everyone was excited to play. We really just tried to play with energy, tried to execute what we've been doing in practice and carry that over into a game.”
On being the guy to score early
“I feel like we were shooting shots that we usually shoot and usually make. Right at the beginning we weren't hitting our shots but once we got going and we were on, we were good. Everyone was able to score and find the open man.”
On playing different rotations
“Coach has always said about exhibition games that it's time for him to evaluate players in different situations and positions. Just being able to see how we'll react in a game. I feel like everyone played well, it's always good to see what people can do.”
Senior wing Jalen Moore
“I felt like we came out and played hard. It's always tough playing a team like this. It was a good win for us. We let all ten new guys play and get a feel for the college game. It starts for real next week. That's when we'll tighten things up, go on the road and hopefully get a win. That's always the goal, to win our next game.”
On getting a team rhythm
“We've got ten new guys. Coach said everyone was going to play. He was kind of throwing rotations together, I think he wanted to see who plays well together, who excels where, that's what he was working on. When it starts for real, he'll have those rotations down and it will be more solid for us. The good thing was tonight he gave everyone a chance to play so everyone could experience that. That's huge for them. In the second half when we came out I think we got it going.”
